Parvin,Sahana; Zeng,Xin-Nian; Islam,Touhidul.
Bioactivity of Indonesian mahogany, Toona sureni (Blume) (Meliaceae), against the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae). The insecticidal activity of Toona sureni (Blume) Merr. was evaluated considering repellency, mortality and progeny production of F1 adults of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst, 1797) (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae). Dried extract of seeds of T. sureni was dissolved in acetone to prepare solution of various concentrations (0.5, 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0%). To test for repellency, the insects were exposed to treated filter paper. Mortality of larvae, pupae and adults was evaluated by the treatment of spraying the insects with different concentrations of T. sureni extract. Residual effect of the extract was also evaluated...

Bioassay for Determining Persistence of the Herbicide Saflufenacil in an Oxisol Planta Daninha
DIESEL,F.; TREZZI,M.M.; VIDAL,R.A.; BARANCELLI,M.V.J.; MIZERSKI,P.H.F..
ABSTRACT: Persistence of an herbicide is defined as the ability to maintain the integrity of its molecule and chemical, physical, and phytotoxic properties in the environment where it was applied. Knowledge of persistence has implications both for the toxicity generated on species grown in succession and for the period in which the herbicide controls weeds. This study aimed to assess the persistence of the herbicide saflufenacil in an Oxisol by means of bioassays. Two experiments with the application of 29.4 g ha-1 of saflufenacil were carried out under field conditions: the first in the 2011/2012 season and the second in the 2012/2013 season. Soil samples were collected at depths of up to 10 cm at different times after application. Subsequently, two...

Adami,Paulo Fernando; Pelissari,Adelino; Moraes,Anibal de; Modolo,Alcir José; Assmann,Tangriani Simioni; Franchin,Marcia Fernanda; Cassol,Luís César.
The objective of this work was to assess the effect of poultry litter fertilization levels on corn and black oat yield using different grazing intensities, poultry litter levels (mixture of manure and bedding material) and a chemical fertilization level. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a split-plot arrangement with four replicates. Black oat + ryegrass grazing intensities, characterized by different pasture sward management, with animal entrance at 25, 30 and 35-cm heights and exit at 5.0, 10 and 15-cm heights, were established at the main plots. After the grazing period, corn was grown at the subplots with four levels of poultry litter (0, 4,953, 9,907 and 14,860 kg ha-1), aiming to supply 0, 100, 200 and 300 kg ha-1 of...

Imidazolinone Degradation in Soil in Response to Application History Planta Daninha
Bundt,A.C.; Avila,L.A.; Pivetta,A.; Agostinetto,D.; Dick,D.P.; Burauel,P..
Accelerated herbicide degradation consists in its faster degradation in areas where it has been previously applied, due to the adaptation of microbial population to that particular compound. Accelerated degradation can reduce herbicide persistence and reduce its efficacy in soil. The objective of this study was to investigate if imidazolinone herbicides have enhanced microbial degradation in rice paddy soils. A laboratory experiment was conducted, evaluating the CO2 evolution rate from soils with and without history of herbicide application (imazapyr + imazapic and imazethapyr + imazapic), incubated with imidazolinone herbicides: imazethapyr, imazapyr, imazapic, imazamethabenz, imazamox and an untreated check. The amount of CO2 released from the soil was...

Phosphorus availability as a function of its time of contact with different soils AGRIAMBI
Santos,Hemmannuella C.; Oliveira,Fábio H. T. de; Souza,Adailson P. de; Salcedo,Ignácio H.; Silva,Valério D. M..
ABSTRACT Phosphorus (P) availability is related to soil sorption capacity and is relevant to planning P fertilization and evaluating its residual effect. The aim of this work was to evaluate the P availability to maize plants after different incubation times of six soils from Paraíba state. For this, four doses of P (0, 100, 200 and 300 mg dm-3) were applied in samples of six soils for 0, 30, 60, 90, 180, 240 and 360 days. After the incubation time, the soil samples received fertilization with macro and micronutrients and were cultivated with maize for 35 days, when they were harvested and analyzed to verify dry matter and P content in soil. The increase in the time of contact of P with the soil decreased P availability to plants; however, the formation of...

Productive characteristics, nutrition and agronomic efficiency of polymer-coated MAP in lettuce crops Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Chagas,Wantuir Filipe Teixeira; Emrich,Eduardo Bucsan; Guelfi,Douglas Ramos; Caputo,André Luiz Carvalho; Faquin,Valdemar.
In contrast to enhanced-efficiency nitrogen fertilisers, principally urea, phosphate fertilisers have been little studied and the available information is limited. The aim of this work therefore was to evaluate the productive and nutritional characteristics and the agronomic efficiency of a polymer-coated MAP fertilizer on two subsequent lettuce crops. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, in pots with a capacity of 4 kg, filled with a dystrophic yellow Latosol of a clayey texture. The experimental design was completely randomised and the treatments arranged in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme: two sources of phosphorus (P) (MAP and polymer-coated MAP), applied to the plots in five dosages (0, 100, 200, 400, 800 mg P2O5 kg-1) with three replications. The...

Use of Sunflower and Soybean as Bioindicators to Detect Atrazine Residues in Soils Planta Daninha
NOVAIS,J.; MENDES,K.F.; INOUE,M.H.; MACIEL,C.D.G.; HELVIG,E.O.; STANIESKI,C.M..
ABSTRACT: Atrazine is selective for maize, sugarcane and sorghum and may interfere with successor crops such as sunflower and soybean. Despite this problem, there are few studies about the residual effect of this herbicide in these crops. Thus, the objective of the research was to evaluate the residual effect of atrazine through bioavailability of the herbicide in sandy and clayey soils, using soybean and sunflower as bioindicators. The design was completely randomized with four replications and a 2 × 7 + 1 factorial scheme, that is, two doses (2,000 and 2,500 g ha-1), seven application times (0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days between application (DBA) of herbicide and bioindicator sowing) and one control without application. Dry mass and chlorophyll...
